Famously known as Mama Sarakasi, Marion is the Co- Founder and Managing Director of Sarakasi Trust, which is based in Nairobi, Kenya. Working with the arts and culture sector in the country since 1989, Marion has been instrumental in promoting the disciplines as a means and tool of instilling positive psychological, social and economical change in (troubled) young and adult people.
Marion has passionately worked through the arts in East-Africa focusing on talent search, acrobatics, dance and music to change the narration that Africa was nothing more than ‘the dark continent’ by training, empowering and facilitating under- privileged youth and launching them on the national and international stage while also encouraging them to take on an ownership of its projects and activities. With an educational background in social work and creative therapy specializing in drama, dance,photography, physical movement, music and visual
arts Marion has seen Sarakasi grow from humble beginnings into a multi program, multi donor funded organization which has incubated several other programs i.e. Ghetto Radio, the Africa Yoga Project, the Sarakasi Trust Hospital Project and the Amani Lazima movement. A multi-linguist with speaking and working knowledge of three foreign languages and a limited knowledge of a local language, Marion loves reading, travelling, meeting new people and making friends, listening to music and spending leisure time with family and friends.
